MIDI NewB alert
Hey MIDI experts, I've been told you can program MIDI events to run effects like lighting, smoke machines, and even videos in time with a live performance.
I've been searching here and around a few sites from google, and I can't really find much information on the best place to start with this. It may be that I'm just not using the right keywords, but could you guys help me out?

It takes a good understanding of midi to wrap your head around this. Large dedicated boards and sequencers are used to accomplish most of this. While your light controller may have midi connections, it uses a different protocal than standard midi.
