Tascam 388 Help!!
I was looking into buying a 388 and I was wondering IF any, what are the ways to get your stuff off the 388 and into a computer to be mixed, can it be done? If not what are some options to get it onto a CD, would a normal pioneer pdr
work? Thanks -Barrett |

Yes, as i told you in your previous thread, you can record the outputs of your 388 in your DAW, depending on the inputs of your interface, youll may have to do a lot of passes, to assure you have all your tracks in sync you have 2 options:
1.- Record a 1KHz. signal tone at the start of every track in your 388, when you record all the tracks in your DAW, just allign the tones. Not very professional but it works. 2.- If the 388 handles something like SMPTE LTC, you can sync the machine with the PC and just record the tracks on your multitrack software. I guess after all sync'ing was an issue ![]() |

Haha yeah I kinda got lost in all the technical jargon in that thread so I thought maybe I'd start another. I currently have a firepod that i use to record into my computer is there any way i can use that to put it on my computer?
Could I use normal TRS outs from the 388 into the Firepod? If so what would that do to the quality? Thanks again so much for all your help man I should bake you a cake or something. -Barrett |

HAHAHA dont worry man, just wanted to help cuz at one time I was asking myself the same questions. Well the thing is this the tascam 388 has 8 channels, and the firepod has 8 inputs, sooo, no sync problems i dont know if the 388 has direct outputs on every channel or just the Stereo output, if you only have the stereo output, well you cant do much but just recording your final mix on your DAW to transfer it to CD, but if you have direct outputs on every channel then you can pass 8 channels on-the-fly in just one pass from the 388 to the DAW. So yes basically treat it like if you were recording a line level instrument such as a keyboard. Use regular TRS cables, and off you go, record at the highest sample rate/bit depth possible on your DAW. Now bear in mind that the outputs of the 388 need to go to the line inputs of your firepod, if you only have mic-level inputs on your interface then youll have some impendance problems and youll need something like a DI which adds more complications although not entirely necessary.
So just be sure to plug the cables to the line-inputs of your interface and thats it ![]() |

Yes, the 388 does have direct outputs for each channel. You should be able to use your firepod to send every track into your computer. This is what I did with my MOTU 8pre on my last album.
