Do i need a mixer for monitors
I am making a simple studio with a laptop, midi controller and monitors. Do i need to get an external mixer for the monitors? I know that they say passive monitors need an amp, is that what the mixer is for? If i get active monitors can i bypass getting a mixer?

powered monitors do not need any sort of mixer.
A mixer is just that, a device that mixes audio sources for playback and/or recording. If you are playing back audio from one source only (PC) you wouldnt need a mixer. Some mixers have poweramps in them. Perhaps thats where you got the idea you'd need an amp for some monitors. If you use passives you'd need power of some type. You dont need a powered mixer though. Just a small stereo power amp will work. Anything with an input for your PC and outputs to the passive monitors. |
