Well, this is just some friendly advice, Alan. Let me just suggest that you'd probably be better off if you just came straight and asked for leftover or throwaway tracks that people would be willing to donate to you so you can get some practice in, because that's what this is really all about. And there's nothing wrong with that (as long as you and the donor have an agreement as to how you can and cannot use those donated tracks.)
It's when you try and make it sound like you're doing them a favor by mixing their tracks for them for free when you admit that you can't do as good of a job as they can, call yourself "semi-professional", and when you inadvertently mistake mixing and mastering in your spam, that you come off as someone trying to pull a fast one, even though you're not. Honestly, your post sounds like someone walking into a Just Tires store and asking the service guys if they want you to change their tires for them for free, even though you won't do as good of a job. You'd be better off just asking for a job instead of trying to come off as an independent tire changing specialist. Just be honest with us and with yourself instead of trying to spam the board, and things will probably go much smoother for you G. |

I think you may have mis-read his post slightly G, I think when he says 'perform' he means the musical performance.

Yup, I think he means he's no good musician but crazy guru at mixing.

Read it in context. "There are people" (he and a couple of his friends) "looking to get some extra time in mixing", right after which they say they can't perform like you. They are looking to get some "extra time in mixing" not because they are bored, not because they are workaholics or masochists, and not because they all are non-musicians. They are looking to get some practice in because they don't have access to enough tracks on their own with which they can actually practice what they are trying to learn. And that's why they aren't as good at it as "us".
If he were a crazy guru at mixing, he wouldn't be looking for opportunities for doing free work, he'd be charging proper dollar for his skills. At least he should be. And if he were a crazy guru at mixing, he'd know that "putting that sparkle on the mix" is not the mixing engineer's job anyway. No, he's just a young 'un looking for some handouts. And that perfectly fine, I'm not complaining about that; I admire his resourcefulness. I'm just saying that he should not try passing it off as somethng more than that, because he's getting off to a bad start that way. EDIT: BTW, I am not a very good musician either. So what? G. |

Yeah, I wastn saying he was a mixing guru, I was saying he was implying that he was.
![]() I understood that he cant perform like some of us (musically) but he can mix tracks well. Thats what I took from his post. You may very well be right though. ![]() Mike

I hear what your saying G, but if you read the phrase 'maybe we can't perform like you' as refering to his mixing skills then the next line dosen't really make sense. When he says 'we can put that sparkle on the track you need to blow people away' that implies he can improve on the mix we could do on our own and impress people with it. I think he's marketing this to people he thinks can't mix too well and considers his own mixing skills to be better than theirs but not at the point he would like them to be which is why he would like more practice.
That's how I read it anyway. |

I think he's saying he can't play but he can mix. Still sounds like these guys want the practice, his username's a bit of a giveaway if you subscribe to such details...
