4 monitors and a sub

I've noticed a bunch of home studio's use 4 monitors and a sub. Would you use a crossover to set 2 for highs, 2 for mid and the sub for the lows? If anyone has the setup could you post the type of crossover and how you wired it to the monitors? Thanks.

They're using *two sets* of monitors and a sub. Not the same as using 4 monitors and a sub (4.1 phantom center system).

You need a controller with "A-or-B-plus-C" switching capabilities (PreSonus Central Station is one of few that I know of). And of course, the system has to be calibrated to near-perfection.

Mackie's "Big Knob" does the same I believe. It's also $200 cheaper.

As always, I very well could be wrong, so take my opinion with a shaker of salt.

(A) I'm reasonably sure that the BK is A-or-B-or-C -- I could be wrong as well.

(B) The sound/features of the CS are well (WELL!) worth the extra $$$ IMO...
