Clicked on the link and got a page for a Hosa CFS106 Molded Effect Pedal Jumper Cable (6").

Haven't used a GR product yet, but just search the forums for opinions on the GR stuff. This one looks to have identical specs to the ME-1NV. Needs a host rack to plug into as well.

That link works for me for some reason..

I've been downsizing a bit having just recently sold an Avalon 737sp that belongs with someone who will actually have time to use it.

I don't expect the same performance of the Avalon for 1/3rd the cost but but I'm hoping for it'll perform well regardless.

Needs a host rack? No power supply comes with it then I guess?

It will require an API 500 series compatible lunchbox or vertical loading rack with a power supply.
The pre has been compared very favorably (some say it is identical in sound) to the stand alone version of the MP-1NV, which is a very highly regarded preamp with "Neveish" flavor.
The 737sp is a channel strip though IIRC and has added functionality (eq and compression).

Great River makes a good solid sounding preamp. Personally, I would expect it to sound better than the Avalon

That preamp rocks IMHO. GR states that their 500 series is the exactly the same as their non 500 series pre. Only negative I see with their 500 series is it requires 2 spaces in the 500 rack.

That should be a very good colored preamp. GR makes very nice stuff. A similar style of preamp to consider would be the Avedis MA5. Kojdogg can probably comment on that as he has one. I believe the Avedis only takes one slot which is something to consider as well if you are going to move to the 500 series format.

i can and i will pohaku

yeah the avedis is only one slot which is both good and bad. it's great because you have an extra space that you can use for something else. it's bad because you have an extra space that you feel driven to fill with something else, which in turn may cause cash flow or credit problems. blank panels are a great investment if you get a lunchbox.

the avedis has a nifty 28k button which creates a rising eq curve up to 28k i imagine for the benefit canine music lovers out there. as it seems to rise it adds some nice "air", "sheen" or whatever word you want to use to describe a high frequency boost. i've used it to add some high frequencies to vocals without adding anything near the typically sibilant frequencies and to acoustic tracks mic'ed with a ribbon mic.

the two slot thing is not that big of a deal unless you really want to fill your lunchbox up. the gr has a massive transformer in it from the guts pics i've seen which is pretty cool. the extra space tends to be well used in the two space units. i have a lachapell 583s which is a two space unit and it's awesome.

i'm sure either the avedis ma5 or gr mp-500nv would make you very happy, but you will need some sort of lunchbox/rack and ps which i'm not sure you were aware of. i've yet to be disappointed with any 500 series module really...

I actually have the MP-500NV and the API lunchbox it requires. I love it.

I've been considering one of the GR modules (pricing is very reasonable if you already have a lunch box compared to buying the stand alone single channel GR unit), but may opt for an Avedis unit instead. From what I understand, both are in the "Nevesque" category of preamps and I am deficient in those. Anbody have both and can compare and contrast them? I've heard the GR, but haven't heard the Avedis, much less had the opportunity to compare them side by side.

BTW, if you get a GR, and you plan to buy new, you might want to consider Mercenary Audio. Their price is lower than SA although they do charge shipping (it's about a wash), but they double the manufacturer's warranty.
