Choosing Guitar to Compliment Voice

This may seem like a silly question, but I'm genuinely curious about this. I'm looking to invest in a better guitar (I have a Martin DXM right now with a Fishman pick-up) that sounds better and is better matched with my voice. What do I need to typically look for? Does it even really matter? I'm going to start playing shows and I also lead worship at church. Most the music I'll play involves a mixture of strumming, finger-picking, etc.
