Question about Yamaha MW12

Have a question about a Yamaha MW12 usb mixer, a buddy picked up over the weekend. It came packaged with Cubase LE software.

My question is about how many inputs this mixer can record simultaniously. So far when I install the software it detects 2 inputs, the mixer is built with 6 xlr inputs. I have heard of usb only being able to send two tracks of audio at one time, but I have also heard that sometimes you have to manually activate the other inputs.

So........ is this mixer only capable of sending 2 tracks of audio. I am sorry I haven't posted a link for specs of the MW12, but it should be easy enough to find.

Also, at the moment it seems that I am having trouble specifying which input to record. What i mean is I have 2 mics plugged in ....1 in input 1 and a second mic in input 2. I have armed both tracks to record and when it records and I talk into mic one it records on both inputs. Shouldn't it only record on input 1? Shouldn't I be able to record seperate tracks of audio on these 2 inputs. For example....input 1 acoustic guitar and input 2 vocals. That way I can edit the seperate tracks.

Anyways some help is needed when some one has the time. I hope this is where I post this question...or these questions. It started out as a question about a mixer and now has turned into a question about inputs and software.

Thanks!

It's my understanding that USB is only capable of transferring two audio streams simultaneously. I also hear that the latency is awful. My advice is check the manual. If you don't have one, now you do.

That's generally true with a couple exceptions. Also, I had an older version of the MW-12, the MW-10, no latency prob's whatsoever.. But then again I wasn't running plugin fx live, I monitored straight off the mixer.

To the OP: The MW-12 is a mixer, not an interface. You have to mix all the inputs down to a stereo mix, and that's what gets sent to the computer. NOT each individual track. That's fine if you're recording one instrument at a time, altho drums get a little hairy cuz you can only record a drum mix, not separate drum tracks. If you need to record more tracks at once, you need a different piece of gear, in which case I'd start looking at Presonus and MOTU firewire interfaces.

My buddy and I messed around with it over the weekend and figured out what it is capable of. I already have the same manual and it doesn't cover anything about my topic, but thanks for sending the link.

Like suprstar said, we did not have any latency problems. And I am actually impressed with the pre amps in this mixer. My buddy is cool with laying down one track at a time, that's really what he wanted to do.

Thanks for your replies and sorry it took me a couple days....too busy having fun recording.
