MIDI controlling a Tascam M-2516?

You will have to forgive me as I'm new to the whole MIDI process. I've figured out to to get things done between my keyboard and the computer via midi. However, I have a Tascam M-2516 mixer, which has the capability of muting individual channels via midi and the use of "scenes". Just for giggles and grins I have set up a dozen or so mute "scenes" according to what I've got running into the board. I'm using Sonar 7 for the moment to pull the tracks in with.

Now for the question. Is it possible to control the midi functions on the board via Sonar or do I need some sort of dedicated midi controller in the chain? I realize parts of this involve Tascam, analog, and Sonar, but I figured I would give this forum a shot first since it all revolves around getting midi to work in this scenario. Thanks in advance!

you should be able to. I have used my tascam tmd1000 to control cubase and it did talk in two directions so I would assume the same to be true for your mixer
