all tracks to the 4th

I've recorded on track 1 and 3 using the pan pod to the left and track 2 using rigth pan. But i dont what is DIRECT on the record function for.
And if i want to move all 1,2 and 3 tracks to track 4, do i have to put the pan pod in the middle? and the record function on direct or right position?
