Big Fuzzies

Having a big problem with recording my drums, im just testing them out today and have recorded a track after calib. the eq's, but when i listen back i hear this nasty nasty fuzz i never got before ever when recording with just one mic on the drums(earlier days)but now with drums mic's i got fuzz, and not before im recording no it sounds fine on the mon/headphones, but when i listen after recording its nasty. PLEASE HELP ITS VERY URGENT!

Are you maybe clipping something on the way in?

If you record another sound with the exact same mics and setting, eg clap, acoustic guitar, do you still get the fuzz?

Is it a constant fuzz or only when you hit a drum?

The first thing that springs to mind is to make sure your mics aren't clipping and your wavs aren't clipping on the computer.

Is there some control after the monitoring thats set really loud by accident maybe?

Try turning all your gains way down, taking off all the EQs and processing and see if that works.

Could be dodgy leads too I suppose.

If you could post an audio clip I'm sure someone would know what it is.

oh no im not recording on the computer im recording onto a teac 80-8 reel to reel

First, check your connections and your cables, a lot of time that's the cause. If not, then check a few hundred of the other things it could be til you get it sorted out.

go back to recording with one mic to see if you still have the same problem. Are you recording each mic on it's own channel or are you bussing all of the mics into one channel? If this is the case the overall amplitude will have increased just due to the fact of many sources as apposed to the one source. What do you mean calibration? Have you reciently had your reel to reel setup? Go by the level indicator on your mixer & trim it off a little & see if you have the same problem (to see if the vu's on your reel to reel are out of calibration) The VU's don't respond in a linear fashion frequency wise, so it can be a little confusing when first starting out.
