compressor suggestions?
I Just Got A New Mic And I'm Looking For A Nice Compressor I Can Work With From 0-200. Right Now I Soley Run My Microphone From The Mixer Straight To The Computer But Im Trying To See If I Can Get A Better Sound Going From Compressor>mixer>computer. Any Suggestions?

No, you can't... You can't put a compressor in front of the mixer. Either you need to put the compressor in an insert on the mixer (allowing the signal to pass through the preamp first) or apply compression in the box. Personally, for $200, I wouldn't bother with a hardware compressor as software compressors will likely do just as good a job as any cheapo hardware comp.

Just my opinion but i really am not the biggest fan of software compressors, i have a dbx 266XL comp and I use it for recording and some live sound subgroup comp stuff too and i love it, just my 2cents.

In that price bracket, the RNC is probably the best option, IMHO.

I've really been digging my FMR RNC.(It had to be brought up) If you want good clean compression this works well. I don't have exprience with it but the Joe Meek channel strips are supposed to offer good colored compression. you can get results just as good in the box though I find I can get good results with alot less tweaking using outboard, not sure why.

I think the ART ProVLA is the other comp usually mentioned in this price bracket if you can find a used one. I've not used this comp, but based on the comments made, it is a more colored comp than the RNC (which you may or may not want) and people also recommend changing out the stock tubes (which may cost you more $$). While my own applications run towards clean comps, the ART is probably worth checking out.

I think most people uses compressor while recording if hey really want to control the dynamic, most of the time it's use during audio processing. And there some free compressor plugin if you really want to try and see if that's what you need.

What DAW are you using? I don't know of any modern DAWs on Windows that ONLY accepts DX plugs. There are ZILLIONS of VST comps out there.

No, I think they've always sold for @$175. I think the list may have gone up from $175 to $199, but AFAIK, they have always sold (and still sell) for @$175. I bought mine years ago and paid that much to Mercenary. Price is still the same. Of course used ones can be had pretty commonly for $125 or so.
