What vocal effect is this?

Hi does anyone know what plug-in or what process you go about to get that electronic computerized vocal effect that usually techno/trance/electronic artists use?

Here's an example of a band that uses it in one of their tracks.

myspace(dot)com/Periphery

The song is called "Insomnia DEMO rough vocals"

thank you
-Walter

I don't hear much of an effect. There's compression and some reverb. You talking about the Cookie Monster vocals near the end??? I don't think it's an effect, it's a "talent", if you can call it that.

It's not done through out the whole song, it's done at 00:18 and 00:42.
Here's that singer's myspace page. He uses it in another song and I think you'll here what I'm talking about.

myspace(dot)com/CaseySabol

Listen to the track called "CLIP of a very old song", the effect comes out around 00:13.

Autotune, with extreme correction settings, probably driven by midi.

hey, nice to see someone around here listening to periphery. their guitarist, misha mansoor, goes by the name "bulb" and has his own page as well--i far prefer his solo stuff to the periphery stuff. their first singer, jake something was way cooler-sounding than this casey character, but he has his moments too.

anyway, i have no answer to your question. i was just surprised to see them mentioned here.

Yeah, I didn't mention...That's a tight ass band. Original, too. I just can't take the vocals in the second half.

You could try a vocoder. It turns your voice into whatever sythesis you like. Just google and try a few.

Cheers

I can't open myspace. Blocked on all gov't servers. But I believe you may be talking about the old "FM Radio" effect. There are plugins you can buy that will reproduce this, or just a band pass filter on your eq, starting around 500hz and play with it until you get it to sound the way you want it. Also use a reverb with a fast attack and release.

If it's not that, then I don't know what to tell you. I am just pissed off that I can do anything on the internet other than post to this site. (which isn't a bad thing in of itself, but when you can't download or upload.... )
