cubase stops when switching to a different window

Hi, I wondered if anyone could help me. I don't know what i've done but now Cubase (SX3) stops playback when I switch to a different window, and then starts again when I return to the Cubase window. I suspect it must be a simple setting somewhere. If anyone knows, i'd really appreciate any advice.

I'm not at that computer right now, but it is in device setup. When you choose the asio driver. There is a checkbox that says something like "release driver in background". Uncheck that box.
