Fantom X8 to ProTools for Midi

I have a Roland Fantom X8 synth, Mbox2Pro with ProtoolsLE 7.3.1. I am trying to configure the midi and am having problems. Specifically, I can't get the midi to produce the actual instrument sounds through my Mbox and out through my studio monitors. How do I get the sound patches on the Fantom X8 into the actual mix in the song? It will play through the synth speakers but not through my studio monitors connected to the Mbox2Pro, also, then when I try to export audio to a wav file the midi is not in the mix.

I don't know if the configuration problem is protools or Fantom X8. Or maybe I'm trying to make something happen that is impossible. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

maybe I will rephraise my question. How do I get the sound samples from my Fantom X8 to my computer? Can they be downloaded into an instrument sampling software like XPand and then used?
