I bought it off ebay cheap a few days ago & it arrived this morning. The tape head assembly wouldn't disengage and it was constantly in play mode. I removed the tape chassis and had a look. The capstan wheel was keyd to operate a few of the mechanisms - namely the tape head travel and return. Once I removed the capstan wheel everything reset and the heads retracted!! I wish I could have a more in depth method of repairing it as I know a few people have had the same problem.
But anyway, my first project repair job ended in success!! . All I have to do is clean the unit up a little, some of the pots are noisy etc. Does anyone have any opinion with regards to the best cleaner for this job?![]()

Everything seems great so far;
Here are some pictures that show the porta with no clothes on - very explicit ![]() http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...etraider/1.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...etraider/2.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...etraider/3.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...etraider/4.jpg

You're the Man!
![]() ![]() ... so what you're saying is the flywheel was stuck and jammed up the mechanics? I'll have to go in deep on my ailing Porta Two,... eh,... someday!

I think that's what I said , only difference is you've used the correct terminology!! Just to clarify things: The big weighty spinny thing wouldn't spin, much to the displeasure of the surrounding moving outy inny bits. Bid spinny thing was pulled and pushed back into home. The moving outy inny bits could once again move outy and inny. Everything is back to normal inside porta, although the big weighty spinny thing is not held in as high esteem as it once was. I apologise to anyone who just read that ![]()
