You know... it's a funny thing.... I just was coming on to post about a new compressor I just got to go in front of my new Mesa Boogie Express 5:25, and I seen your post... So, I will talk about it here, instead of my own post.
I just got a Behringer CS100. It's a clone of the CS3, but 1/3 the price. Man... my new amp breathes FIRE now!! WOW! I can't get over the difference! I'm flabberghasted, really. It's a beautiful thing. Here are some reviews... http://reviews.harmony-central.com/r...ger/CS100/10/1
Some folks say it's noisy. Well, it does in fact create bit of noise, if you push it hard (which I do, it sounds better that way) But, I've yet to see a stompbox that creates gain that doesn't introduce a bit of noise. When you play, it completely goes away. One thing a compressor does is take any low level signal and pump it up. When you aren't playing, the only thing it has to amplify is system noise, and so it does....just what it's supposed to do. That's why they created noise gates, isn't it??

I highly recommend it!

Peace!

~Shawn

I used a vintage MXR Danacomp for years. If I could have only one pedal on the floor, that would be it. With the comp knob at around 10:00 and the gain at 2:00 it compressed just enough to hold distorted notes for days, with controlled feedback if I wanted it. Really warms up "chicken picken" clean stuff too. Just smooths out all the peaky attack.
