WOW, guitar center is worst than i thought

ok, so about a month ago i made a thread about how monster cable no longer covers broken ends on their warranty anymore. i couldnt find it on their site, but thats what guitar center told me. "they no longer cover broken ends, its considered abuse" mind you i BOUGHT them for the warranty because i could always get new ones.

i went to daddys junky music today and traded it in no problem. guitar center is a bunch of fucking assholes. i dont know WHY they would blatantly lie to my face, but hey, whatever.

they have potentially lost a customer. well see.

Unfortunately, when you go into guitar center, it's luck of the draw as to whether you get a complete asshole, or a very knowledgable person who really wants to help you. I've had both.

I once drove 50 miles for one of their 25% off sales to buy a drum set. When the guy rung it up, he rung up 25% off the kick drum only, since that was the most expensive piece. The set was marked with one price, and this jerk was trying to pad his commission. I asked him if I bought a set of six guitar strings, would it be only 25% off the most expensive string and full price for the other 5. Long story short, he had the freedom to ring it up either way, and after 10 minutes of arguing he finally gave the 25% off the entire set. The pathetic part is he's dumb enough to think I won't realize he's trying to rip me off.

Sometimes you're better off leaving and coming back when someone else is working. I've walked out of GC empty handed many times before only because of the jerkwad salesperson.

Somehow the selection and prices keep me coming back. I guess that shows how stupid I am.

we have two stores here in Indy one on the north side and one on the south...

The store on the north is not bad if you want to go in and get what you need and leave, if you wanna play guitars even, it is not too bad as long as you go when the place is not too freakin' busy (nothing odd there) anyway I am doing a major upgrade in my PA (1000 watt amps monitors speakers bigger format console etc) I go into the southside store because I have a gig over there anyway and the guy starts to tell me that I don't need anything that big to cover my shows this summer at county fairs all over the state, playing grand stand gigs of 500+ crowds....

I may not max out my 1000 watt crown amps every single night, but to have that headroom made sense to me.... Oh yeah, that and I wanted to go with a Yamaha mixer rather than a Behringer, said Bery would sound just as good

regardless of the manufacturers warranty
you need to look on the back of your GC reciept,
it plainly states GC has a return policy of 30 day's. Any thing after 30 days you will have to get a return authorization from the manufacturer.
Monster and other companys are pretty strait forward with that as well.
that is just the way it is man.

It's to be expected. Guitar Center stores are basically localized outlets for Musician's Friend--which owns the chain. I can remember a local music store when I was in college wanting to hire me to manage their guitar department. When I declined because I knew nothing about business, the owner's response was "it's easier to teach musicians about business than it is to teach business people about music."
Guitar Center and Musician's Friend will hire anybody--knowledge of musical equipment is not a requirement. Good customer service skills also are not required.

actually GC is the parent company of MF...
and no MF or GC will not just hire any body you have to have a buddy that works there. It don't matter if you know anything about music gear or not as long as you can talk a line of BS, you can learn as you earn

I stand corrected as to which is the parent company and which is the subsidiary.
You have confirmed my basic point. Neither GC nor MF hire personnel for knowledge of music gear or customer service skills. Judging by what I've seen in various GC stores throughout the midwest and the MF warehouse in Kansas City, good grooming habits appear to be low on the list of requirements as well.

you also might like to know that as of January 08 GC now owns Music 123 and WWBW.com (woodwind brasswind)

And what is with this new no haggling about prices, i tried to buy a few things recently and was told, when i asked "how much can you do this for" the price is what it is. i thought to myself i wasn't born yesterday.how come no deals, another guy told me they got bought out by the same company that owns best buy. And the only deals you can get is if you find it somewhere else cheaper, they will give you a refund. thats too much work. to save a few bucks here and there.

They are implementing it a few stores at a time. It's been going on for a few months. All the stores in the Chicago area are 'no haggle'. They will all be that way soon.

So have their prices come down at all where they're no haggle?

Not that I have noticed. Of course, I was getting my stuff for 'cost plus 10%' so I have no concept of what stuff normally costs. It was a rude awakening.

Wow...that's too bad. I NEVER pay full price. I'm virtually renowned (in my own mind at least) for talking folks down on everything--esp. gear. I wonder how long it'll be before this wind reaches the St. Louis area?

Sounds like good news for internet retailers.

Guitar Center gives you about a 30% discount from list on most items. And yes they will give you refund if you find your item someplace cheaper. It sucks but at the same time, the local music stores around me generally charge more then GC.

that is not in their policy tell them you wlii go online and get a better deal by haggling over the phone with MF representative watch how fast that no haggle gets tossed out the window.
when money is fixing to walk out the door they soon dance to a different tune.

Since GC and MF are the same company, it seems to me that it behooves them to get onto the same page.

Sematics. The profits all go into the same pocket, so they should work together rather than undercut each other. Not that I'm complaining, you understand... ;^)

Yeah, I understand and agree with you! GC is also pushing GC.com. Not really sure why they created GC.com instead of just using Musicians Friend.

Is it still true that GC will undercut any price found at MF?

They will not undercut it, they will match it.
