FL studio 8 & my midi

Ok I have been trying to record some piano and bass on top of my fl drums, but I cant seem to figure out how to just hit record and play my midi keyboard over the drums!
Ive been trying to do it in the piano roll, but it dosnt seem to be working.
Is it even possible, what am I doing wrong!

Are you trying to record in song or pattern mode. I get this problem in song mode, works in pattern mode though. Try exporting your drums to mp3 and playing it in the background while you record your piano or bass in pattern mode.

...

Ive had no problems with recording with my M-Audio Ozone MIDI Keyboard into FL Studio 7 into pattern or song. My real problem is finding out how to program the knobs on my keyboard. Can someone please help me with that?
