Vmock!

Yo, I took that brass kit and messed around.

http://www.strictproductions.com/Bea...apse-Brass.mp3

Nothing special, but I thought it was pretty sweet for 15 minutes of messin' around.

I'm still lovein' it, there's tons of good sounds in it.

It's all good. Glad someone even replied.

All that matters is I like it! But, I wanted some feedback of why people do or don't like it, so if you would please...

I thought it was kinda in need of a real melody, cuz those horns werent cuttin it for me. It just didn't sound like it flowed right.

Ah, I feel ya.

I'll throw somethin' up in a bit with some different brass instruments, I wanna see what you think of that.

I'm diggin' this brass kit really largely.

I guess com'in from my growing up playing the Tuba!

Let me know what you think of those, they aren't as intense as the first one.

I'm diggin' them all, it's not your typical hip hop beat, but this ish is gewd.

i mean when you're making a beat you have to stop to think about hearing a vocalist over it. The brass samples sound like they could be put to good use as an auxiliary part of the beat but i don't think they work well as the central focus. The one called brassagain is closer to sounding like hiphop but its difficult to picture a vocalist on the others.

Most definitely, I wasn't planning on putting vocals on them. I just like the instrumentals. If I was planning to put vocals on them there would be more change-ups for chorus lines and hooks.

I like 'em though.

im a give it a listen to night when i get off work - i feel u on makin instrumentals for the sake of liking an instrumental too though - i wanna get some tracks like that - where i just did em for the instrumental-ism-ness of it - and sell em to a tv show or have a mom n pop restaurant play em as "newVO" jazz hip hop fusino type ish!

tsk tsk tsk, but alas i have no contacts for such!

Sounds good man, let me know what you think.

I like 'em, for instrumental purposes. I just like flippin' 'em on and noddin' my head to 'em. They speak for themselves, they don't need vocals.

But let me know watcha think mayne.

preciate it. btw, what we gonna do for Noddy's track.

You know, I just realized, I haven't ever used a VST. I'll have to find some and see what I can do with them.

Let me know watcha think of the instrumentals.

I understand making an instrumental for an instrumental's sake, but you don't want to fall into the trap of continually making unusable instrumentals instead of improving on your ability to make workable beats. This is assuming that you want to be primarily a hip-hop producer. I disagree about having more changeups and such if you were going to be putting a vocalist over it, a lot of the best rap production is very subtle.

So regardless of if you in the end actually intend to turn the instrumental into a song, you should still think of it as if you were. If you're playing the beat back to yourself and it sounds like it would be difficult to rap over, chances are there's something you could change to improve it. The thing about this brass kit, is although there are some workable sounds, they do not stack together that well. The kit shouldn't be used by itself, and i think some more percussions or bass or something would make your songs more well-balanced.
