Gotta replace my Sennheiser Pro280's
At a conference, I was rooming with someone who snored like crazy. So, in order to keep from committing murder, I wore my Senn Pro280's to bed. Yes. Anyway, they're not made for that application and I've lost sound in one ear.
I need a new pair, and am leaning to get the same ones (I need closed back for recording, and they seem really accurate). But are there any that have come out that might be wroth considering (at somewhat neat the same price)? |

Yo BILL:Get a pair of Beyer 250s if you can find them. Cost is "medium high." However, I've been using two pair of them for 15 years--closed back--good sound for doing tracks. Green Hornet ![]()

So, in checking Ebay, I found that an outfit called Musicians Advocate has 'em. BUT this same seller sold me a BLUE spider mount/pop filter that they didn't have in stock (though for the next 2 weeks they said 3 were available)... It took quite a while to get my money back for an item that never shipped...
So I'll keep looking, because I hear lots of good things about the Beyers. |

Oh noes!
Have you taken them apart yet to investigate and see if you can fix them? I sleep with headphones on nightly, unless I'm crashing somewhere else. I haven't ever broken headphones sleeping, but if you do, be careful about that pesky cord. I'm always paranoid about strangling myself. At least I'll go out with some nice tunes!

Those headphones are designed to be repairable. Have you looked at replacing the driver?

Yo Bill:The Beyer 770s are available at a few "reliable" vendors. I have one pair of the 770 model. Has a kind of velvet lining. They have the same quality as the 250s; however, at first I found them a tad tight but the eventually eased up from use. You might want to check them out. Green Hornet ![]()

I've used a set of Audio Technica ATH-M40fs's for the last couple years, and find them to be quite nice for tracking applications. Finally getting some others in here to record lately, and everyone agrees with my assertion. They won't flatter anything that goes through them, and they are closed-back and work well when tracking vox or acoustic instruments.
I've never actually used them for just sitting and listening to music though. My Sennheiser HD570's are used for that purpose. |
