TASCAM 38 help needed... weak motor, vu meter lamps etc...

Hello all...

I am new to the forum, and have been looking for the answer to my problem via the search function, But I cannot seem to find an answer to my problem.

Here is the scenario.

1.) I moved across country in 99. Somehow during the move my Tascam 38 quite working. I did not know what to do since I was fairly green at the time with doing my own electronics maintenance. Turns out that the take up reel had a solder come undone in the move (from what I could tell). So I repaired the solder. And the moter turned.

However... now the motor seems very weak. It will not spin the tape in play mode. It acts like it starts to move, and then just stops.
It does the same thing with or without a reel. With or without the brake, with or with out the speed sensor.

I replaced the capstan belt last week thinking it may be the culprit.. and if not it needed replacing anyhow... but it still does the same thing.

Any help would be appreciated.

2.) All of my VU meter lamps quite working. And I cannot figure out why! Help. All of my fuses are good.

Thanks for reading this and I hope someone can help me before I part this thing out. I have used this machine for years before this happened and would love to use it some more.
