Exclamation Help with buying a PA system.

My brother needs to get a PA system set up in his barn. Yes, his horse barn. He used to be a punk, and then he went all cowboy...bummer...but anyways.

He only needs one microphone input. He needs a wireless microphone. And a PA system and he needs to use like 2 speakers or so.

What's the cheapest route to doing this?

Are there any PA's specifically designed for this type of thing?

Thanks for the help! Very much appreciated.

-Elliot

How cheap is cheap? He could put together a powered mixer and a couple speakers of decent quality for a thousand or so. I like EV speakers for this.

It will be very difficult to spend less unless you take a couple risks and/or you don't care how it sounds....

Woah, a thousand, eh?

I put together a little set up, I think I ended up at 500. That was with a small powered mixer, 2 speakers, 2 speaker stands, and microphone.

What would you have for a system?

Don't consider price. Just think cheap, but decent quality before price. If that makes sense.

Thanks for the input!

For lower prices and a nice sound, check out the Carvin systems. I played through one of their systems once and it had a great sound.

Well, I would consider something like this. Part of the problem is the need for a wireless mic, which I really don't understand in this context. If you abandon the wireless idea you can get a basic Shure SM58 for about 90 bucks.

I'll never recommend Carvin, Behringer, Nady or brands like that. Some people disagree. Probably the most important single piece of this is having decent speakers. I recommend 12" or 10"; 15" will tend to make the vocals too boomy.
