anyone else notice a huge spike in CPU usage?

I've been a happy LE8 user for months now, but recently, something must have changed, and parts of it are using a huge amount of CPU -- I can't even use Guitar Amp Pro at 96khz - the cpu craters constantly, and I get a bunch of hesitation and clicks. Maybe a month ago, it was nothing like this, so I'm thinking it's due a software update.

The Apple support forum has a few people complaining about what sounds like the same thing -- anyone here?

I haven't really experienced anything like that..esp with guitar amp pro (it uses hardly any CPU for a guitar amp sim, even at 96kHz)

What updates did you apply. I haven't applied some of the newer ones, like the plugin manager update, just because I am paranoid that way... I'd be interested to find out if that is the culprit.

Have you tried rebooting or adjusting the buffer settings? Are you on Leopard or Tiger?

I'm still on Tiger. I haven't intentionally applied any updates, but 8.0.1 (1474.18) was installed some time ago automatically.

I'm thinking it's some other (non-logic) library update, because I think the LE update was some time ago.

as a follow up to this thread, it appears that my CPU problems happen when I have wireless networking turned on -- if I turn it off, everything works fine. Strange but true. I read about this somewhere on the web. I also read that Apple has resolved the issue in a patch, but apparently that part hasn't worked out for me yet.

So, at least there's a workaround - kind of a pain, since I like to have an internet connection active all the time, but if I'm actually playing the guitar into guitar amp pro, for instance, it doesn't matter.

and as a followup to my followup, I got a big Apple update to the airport wireless part of the system, and things seem to be better now, even with it enabled.

Airport off! Mine (Logic Pro 8) gets the most ridiculous pops and clicks and lags with airport on. I turn it off and it's smooth sailing.
