Would this work?
Hi guys
You can probably tell, i'm new to this forum and also to the whole recording world, so i've got a few questions. Basically, i play drums and I want to start recording myself+my band. So i've looked around a bit, and this is what i've come up with: Shure mics>>>firestudio>>>software on my pc ok, first off would this work? two - what would be some good software to use? three - are there better options? (i looked at multitrack recorders but the are more expensive and i'm not on the biggest budget) anyway, thats about it, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated |

sure, the firestudio would work for you.
it has software included with it already (Cubase LE)...so try playing around with that first. There are tons of other options out there, many here like Reaper.

Looks like a great place to start. I would strongly suggest checking out Reaper to replace Cubase. You can try it for free and ultimately I think it will provide more flexibility and power than LE. |

+1 for Reaper. Don't spend any money on recording software until you give Reaper a *good* try...you may possibly end up saving yourself a bunch of money that would otherwise go to waste and could be spent on more important stuff.

I had a firepod a while back and had lots of "burbs and crackle" with it. I now have a motu 828 mk3 and have had no problems with it. I would tell you to get a beta 52 for your kick, a sm57 for your snare (also great for guitar amps ) 2 sm 81's for overheads. this would give you a good clarity to your drums and still leave enough tracks for bass, guitar, and vocals. I can work cubase LE like a champ you just have to know what it can and can't do. also If you use 2 overhead mics " phaze reverse one of the tracks " so many people forget to do this.
