Neumann planning on closing it's doors after 80 years of business

It is difficult to imagine a professional audio studio without a Neumann microphone. For decades, Neumann has been regarded worldwide as the standard-setting, leading manufacturer of studio microphones. Many products introduced in the history of the company have become milestones of professional audio technology. It is no accident that when listing their equipment, audio studios almost always put Neumann microphones at the top of the list – they are a recognized sign of a highly professional operation.

“Our decades of success were based on an uncompromising, quality-oriented approach, in both the development and manufacture of our products,” explains Wolfgang Fraissinet, President of Marketing/Sales. “But with all these Chinese mics around now not to mention the boutique makers like Brauner, Manley, Telefunken and many others we just simply can't make it anymore."

The company was attempting to concentrate on its absolutely core area of expertise: high-end microphone technology for studios, and increasingly also for the stage but competition has become very tough in the last decade. Wolfgang Fraissinet told us that "rather than totally driving the company into the ground building crappy mics for less and less money we simply prefer to call it done."

Don't be surprised if not many folks fall for it. We've already had a Neumann/April Fools story. As it was a bit specific to this forum, many jumped at it--so we/they aren't likely to bite twice.

rofl. this has got to be one of my favorite days of the year.... a couple hours ago i had my g/f call my mom and tell her she was pregnant... but that we've never had sex. my mom just about died.

And your g/f went through with it? That's brilliant! My g/f (who's been my wife for like a jillion years now) would never have had the nerve for that. Besides she really was pregnant!

I saw the Neumann TnC post and I almost didn't drop this one here but I thought the more involved "faux Neumann article" on this might get somebody for half a second.
