Multichannel Mixing

Hi..

I'm looking for some guidance on doing multichannel (5.1) mixes..I have been a hardcore surround fan going back to the Quad days in the 70's..

Over the past 2 years, I have done many stereo to 5.1 conversions - aka upmixes..I have used a variety of custom written apps and in general the results are pretty decent but no where near a match for studio 5.1 mixes..these upmixes are done using plogue as the host app..the output is 24/96 DVD-Audio - I have an M-Audio 1010 soundcard and do live monitoring..

I want to get into doing the real thing and have 2 questions:

1-are there any applications that can 'unmix' a stereo mix and generate the original multitracks used to create the original stereo mix?

I would be shocked if the answer was yes..

2-Assuming I can get copies of the original multitracks what apps would be best suited for doing the 5.1 mixes?

I'm overwhelmed at all the choices - but I'm willing to buy the one best suited for this purpose, and make the effort to learn how to do this..I'm also not opposed to buying a mixing board if the advice is to go this way over a total PC solution..

Thanks for any advice!

KS

Yo Keys:

Personally, I'd call the company and ask a techie to solve your problem.

I know Sonar can, not sure if all versions can or just the professional, but you may want to check that out
