y'all gonna laugh at this.
I was searching for a recording of my Crate Palomino V-32 to post in an amp thread over in "Guitars and Basses," and found this. This is a track me and some old band-mates made in my studio, recorded live. I actually just lost this drummer... he's in Nashville bowling them over... you'll hear what I mean if you listen to this track.
This is totally live... we're just all in the same room... I put my amp out the door, and cranked it hard, and put an SM57 on it. Bass is direct. I'm singing into an SM58. This is the way they did it in the old days. sorta. http://www.box.net/shared/static/m08z20n6v0.mp3 Peace! ~Shawn |

Hello Shawn,
Your softdance mix is very enjoyable. This is a cool rock'n'country recording. That echo on the vox is long isn't it. I'd have thought you'd use slapback discretly. Interesting to hear you almost laugh- what amused you. Good guitar sound. The drummer is good - loud snare though. Good fun mate. |

I like it. The snare is kicking! I love that loud live drum sound.

I'm glad you like the "Softdance" mix! That was fun to do, on such a great song. You are a fantastic musician and songwriter. I'm honored to have been given the chance to mix your song! This is most certainly a fun rockncountry kind of song. I think the delay on the vox is 1/4 note. I think I got tired of the slap-back once-upon a time, and just never reach for it anymore. I was laughing at an accent the drummer and me hit together.... it just tickled me! If you think that snare is loud on the recording, you should try standing in front of it for three hours a night! That's how I grew to love a big drum sound! Peace! ~Shawn |

More props! This just goes to show that a good performance can go a long way to overcome many perceived shortcomings equipment-wise. Drums rock, everyone is tight, all is well - though I do concur that the echo on the vocals can be distracting at times.
