I'd love to get this thing along with 8 channels of external DBX so that I could digitize my old 1/2" 8 tracks that I made MANY years ago on my old 80-8. That is a thing of beauty. I wonder how the heads are.

It doesnt look like it has been used much at all. If you look at the capstan its not all dull looking like most of them are after alot of use. The whole machine is just so clean.

Any predictions on how much it will go for?

The cool factor on that thing is off the charts!

Oh Herm, an update on your 22-4, it's still very happily being babied and we just recorded some songs for a 7 inch record release. Just have to get that mixing out of the way...)

Yeah, I actually picked up it's little brother, a Tascam 22-2. I looked around my basement and realized how much Tascam stuff I have (22-4, 22-2, M312, 122 cassette), I mean it can't compete with the amount that some analog folks have, but it's really a testament to how great the stuff really is that I've been through many others and wound up with Tascams.

Glad to hear it. Well if you need something else let me know I am clearing some of my stuff out.
When I moved hear I decided I was too old to do that again so some of it is going.

Also let me know when you get the album done. I will ship you some funds for it, I love stuff done on old gear.

While I wouldn't put it as bluntly as that, I would agree that this machine is probably more appropriate as a collector's item than as a studio workhorse.

The point is there is nobody at Tascam that knows anything about this machine anymore. There are also no parts for it anywhere, save having to scavenge from another of the same model. I mean nothing - no motors, guides, heads; etc. Anything that is proprietary is long gone. Someone wants to polish it up and put it on display - fine. It's good for that. But as a recording tool it will eventually fail and not be fixable. Hardly a good investment of time or money.

You will have to excuse some of us cause thats what we do. We sit them on a shelf and look at them and collect them.
But we also use the crap out of them when we get the chance. Kinda like our women

What do you think Dave are we nuts?

You will have to sober up eventually, like it or not.
Your money, time, and liver(s).

My favorite are from Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken. The food there tastes more like the old Kentucky Fried Chicken I remember as a kid. Years ago KFC started only selling livers on Sundays and they weren’t the same as the old recipe. I was also finding more gizzards in my livers. Contrary to the belief of some non-liver eaters, we liver lovers don’t necessarily like gizzards… I can’t stand them.

So anyway, one day I discovered Lee’s in a nearby town (we didn’t have them around here when I was younger) and shazam! The chicken livers tasted just like the good old KFC livers and the personnel there knew that just because one likes livers doesn’t mean they like gizzards, so they made sure to keep them separate. I found out later that Lee’s was started by a nephew of Colonel Sanders. It all makes sense now.

It's definitely worth the time (about 40 minute drive) and worth the money for the liver dinner, which comes with biscuits.
