Question V-Vocal audio to midi

Anyone tried working with this yet? V-Vocal indicates that it can take audio and convert to midi. I understand that it can be problematic for compound audio sources but in it's simplest form, I'm trying to take kick drum impulses and convert to midi for retriggering samples.

For the life of me, I can't get it to do anything. I play and record some drums, create a V-Vocal clip and per the instructions, I should be able to select/click and drag the little musical note symbol in the V-Vocal toolbar and drag to a midi track.

I get nothing

I think they mean it can follow midi,it certainly can not convert it.

To the contrary actually, the limited information in V-Vocal states that it does (supposed to) convert tone to midi. It's supposed to be a drag and drop actually once you have a V-Vocal clip started.

I also found a few on-line reviews which also discussed the feature. In the reviews they got it to work but with some "issues" but in my case, can't get it to do anything at all.

I've also posted in the Cakewalk forums but seems that most either don't know about this feature or also find it to be problematic. Just poking around hoping to find someone that's got it working.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Is this a SONAR 7 feature? If you've got a link to it I'd be interested,I've watched quite a few of the videos on it and can't recall this function.

After having thought about this,I think you are confusing audio snap with V-vocal.

It's a feature of version 1.5 (V-Vocal) and comes with SONAR 7 Pro. I guess, more correctly, they call it "pitch to midi conversion". It's intended to work with monophonic audio.

http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SON...ate-vvocal.asp

http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=1296210

This article about 1/2 way down ; http://www.eqmag.com/article/cakewal...7/dec-07/32747

And this article about 1/3 down; http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/15641...r-edition.html .... it talks about the drag-and-drop capability of converting audio to midi then dragging the midi information over to a midi track etc...

And one more "write up" from over at the cakewalk forums...this guy sort of reviews the V-vocal audio to midi feature; http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=1167013

Anyways, just wondering if anyone really gets this to work.

To be honest, I'm not so sure moving to 7.x was a significant improvement. A few extra plug ins and few bells-n-whistles but all in all, I was plenty happy with 6. The V-vocal seemed like a nice enhancement but frankly, it's a bit buggy for my liking and since this isn't a full time job for me but rather a part time money maker, I don't get to become terribly fluid with the application so, if it's not easy to work and the support documentation isn't cut-and-dry, it just gets in the way.

But hey, at least you responded! THANKS!

SONAR is a deep program and it's hard to really get a handle on it if you aren't using it all the time.I went from 3 to 6 and I could never keep up if I upgraded every year.Anytime I get new software the time it takes to learn it takes away from the time it takes to record.SPE7 sounded good to me,but my plate is already full.I'm just a hobbyist and I've got more toys than time.

I've been tinkering with V-vocal and getting excellent results.I've heard the complaints about phasiness but I haven't experienced it myself.
