Hi everyone,
My name is Birthday Waiter, I'm new here just joined today. I would like some help please as I'm about to get into Cakewalk Sonar 7 Producer Edition. I've just got the latest version of the program and I'm about to start learning how to use it properly. I've just bought a book for it also, the one called Sonar 7 Power! I was wondering if anybody can tell me about this book? what they think of it etc.. I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive so I can get started with Cakewalk Sonar 7 and get my teeth into things ![]() Also to help matters I've just invested in some sounds too for my new midi keyboard I just got. I just bought a M-Audio Keystation 88es and have also got Native Instruments 4. I've managed to get my midi keyboard and Native working together and I love the sounds, they're such good quality plus the fact there's so many it's very overwhelming. Hopefully when I get my book I'll be able to start making some recordings. As well as play keyboard I also play guitar and bass too. As far as recording I have a Boss BR-600 to record into at the moment. I'm planning on getting something better soon, a Edirol M-16 DX digital USB2 recorder instead of just the Boss one. I'm hoping that I can get the Edirol to integrate with Cakewalk when I get that and have it all running really nicely. So with all this and also being new to most of it, I have some background in recording but not much, some use of Cool Edit Pro, can anybody offer any good advise and give me some tips on how to get going with it all? It won't be too long I don't think before I can save up enough to buy my Edirol mixer which I'll be very excited to get eventually. I really need to start learning how to use Cakewalk Sonar 7 now really so I can get used to it and when I get the Edirol then I'll have more of an idea about what I'm doing. Would be very grateful to anything you have to say or suggest to me. Shall hope to hear from you people very soon when you guys have chance to get back to me, take care for now and speak some more very soon. Birthday Waiter :-) |

Welcome aboard!
Sonar is a wonderful piece of software and can fulfill many needs for a recording musician. I guess a good starting point would be to tweak your computer in wich you are going to be running sonar for audio. If you are using XP, then you must check out www.musicxp.net. Good luck and when you start with Sonar and new specific questions arise, be sure to come back. Cheers, Carlos

Here's my advice on using S7....find a weekend...or even better a long weekend...and just sit with it for most of the hours in that weekend...trial and error...experiment...read the manual...figure out what you want to do...then see how many ways you can do it...fiddle about...make mistakes...all that...just don't expect to learn it without getting your hands dirty.
Get your hands dirty.

I have Cakewalk Power (for Pro Audio) & it's a great help. I still learn more by trial & error but when I get stuck the book usually gets me sorted. I assume the sonar version would be similar if by the same author etc.

There's so much going on in ACKUS- where to start? With random help? Maybe just ping us when you get stuck, or something don't makes sense or whatever.

I want to know more about mixing and how to produce recording like the one that I hear on the radio, tv, and pro recordings. Is there anyone who can help me to know this for free? Thanks

Home Rec BBS' (and others) are a good place to start. The format works best with bite sized chunks -specific questions. You'll want to provide questions that zero in, and with background info if the needed.
Here's a much better way to use search, with Google for site-specific; "kick mic" site:http://homerecording.com (It's not for the link you see here. The site turns the line into a link'- Just type it as text at google. And here's a must have' that will take you far-- http://www.rane.com/digi-dic.html

I've got my new Edirol M16 DX now but I'm having a problem with it, just posted a new thread in the Roland/Boss section for Edirol as it's made by Roland.
Hope you guys might have some answers to my problem? Thanks... ![]() |

honestly, trial and error is the best way to get used to any software.
