Lightbulb April Challenge (No Fooling!)

I know that this is early but by midnight April 1st you will need to have a lot done. The Challenge for April is far more universal. You must write a song (any genre) in the third person. For those of you who slept through high school English (Like me!) think in terms of “She loves you” "He loves her" etc. No "I, me, mine".

Additionally, many times people (myself included) have a hard time seeing how the meter of a written lyric fits the melody. To make that easier for everyone this month you should TRY to record and post it somewhere in RAW form for the rest of us to listen. This should be an entirely new song in keeping with the intent (Growth as writers!) of the Challenges but everyone is on the honor system. I understand that the recording portion makes it a bit cumbersome for those without the facilities to do so. You may still enter the Challenge without a recording. I would simply encourage everyone to TRY to post a recording of the song somewhere in some raw form. Don’t get too involved recording because then it becomes difficult to take suggestions and use them for rewriting/changing.

You have 21 days give or take your location in regard to the International Dateline. I look forward to reading and hearing your entries.

BTW-By participating each month, everyone should have 12 songs they could use for an album by next February.

I guess I will give it a go, again. For someone that is lacking in creative verbage, these drills are tough!!!

Definitely in – read an article in Wired last night about people in East Germany get access to all the records of surveillance taken by the KGB before reunification. Lot of ‘them watching her, watching him’ potential for a song!

Good luck to all on the April challenge - I have to sit this one out. I just was hired to lay drum tracks for a dozen songs on a singer/songwriter CD (I may also play piano on a few tracks) - so, I'll be very busy learning and tracking songs during the next several weeks.

Unhappy

I'll see if I can come up with something, myself. I'm going through a family crisis right now, but the added emotional impact may help me to write something.

Welcome aboard! The thread becomes cumbersome if we start posting songs right away. It is simply easier for me to do the critiques and compilations all at once. I have ended up spending about 5 hours per Challenge. I don't mind at all but I need to be able to do it all in a day or two.

Glad you are excited and we all look forward to hearing and critiquing your effort. Wait until April 1st to post though.

writing in 1st person is easy...writing in 3rd person isn't too hard either....

How about next time requiring something to be written in 2nd person?

I've actually written in the 5th person - but I'm able to do so, since I have multiple personalities living inside me. If only I could get them all to help haul gear!

I have written and recorded in the fourth dimension but never seem to find time to hear it.

I have to say that I am getting nowhere fast on this exercise. I have thrown away soooo much stuff and I am not any closer. I do not want to drop out, I'm still grinding, and am hoping something will click for me because I want to be a part and play along with everyone else.

For those of you that find writing comes easy, count your lucky stars!

Just keep going and punch through - remember the monthly deadline is only part of the songs journey - the song may not be finished, but unless you aim for it then it may have never got started.

I haven't pick up a guitar to write this one yet - I am letting it distill in my brain - Hopefully all will come together at the end - Hopeful hope hopefully, not hopelessly

I've got a partial cheat for this one...not sure how well it'll pass though...I have written a song that's a conversation between two people, neither of which are presented as myself, however the two people talk in first person...so its a first person song from two third person perspectives. Please don't make me repeat that or explain it any further...lol

Me,myself, and I??? If you are in doubt then enter. Remember the goal is to help each other get better at our craft......and little more than that.

I must exclaim a personal 'HUZZAH" since I just completed my song a few minutes ago. I will record it sometime next week.

You may post on Monday!!!!!

Monday is the deadline. Try to get your entry posted by midnight local time. If you don't have the music ready remember that it is fine to post lyrics without music. If your music is ready then remember to post a link to where we can hear it. The mixes should be raw so that you can change them after the critique process is complete. I have had the lyrics ready but the music just isn't there yet. I have a guitar/vox take that I will put up if I wake up without inspiration tomorrow.

Here it is folks 22.22 HK time

Its called Vampire Love

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6416395

It is as ropey as the arse end of a pineapple, but I really like it and it was one that wrote itself.

Look forward to feedback

Vampire Love

1
She was in love, she had a taste for danger
The smiling stranger caught her
It was the demon in his heart, the devil in his touch
That made her sigh

2
She took him, gave her heart to feed him
Her bleeding body wastes away
It was the hope that she might save, this angle from the grave
That made her stay

Ch
She loves the vampire love, his love
She loves the vampire love, and she’d give her blood
To make him stay

3
He left her bare, battered, bruised and naked
God forsaken in bloodstains
But the fire of their sins, the coldness of his skin
Eased her pain

Ch

Mid 8

With only pain for company
In a world where no one stays
It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy
You feel the pain
You breathe again

Ch
