Snakes...

Why did it have to be snakes?

I notice Ebay has taken to hidding the names of ALL bidders as of a couple of days ago. It used to be that they hid names once bidding reached $200, now, the first bidder is hidden. It makes it rather tough to bid on items if you refuse to bid where identities (and histories) are hidden. Looks like I scratch Ebay off my source list on anything other than buy it now items (including snakes).

Yep, I hate these new rules. When I first signed up for eBay it was a lot easier to find out who you were dealing with beforehand. With the names hidden it's nearly impossible to detect shill bidders (people bidding on their own auction using another eBay account). I used to find them all the time by searching completed auctions. You could see the same ID with zero feedback had bid on several items of that seller over time… never winning of course.

As a buyer I want to know if I'm bidding against phantoms. As a seller I want to know if someone that has bid on my item is a decent person or a head case that hates the world. I have cancelled bids in the past and put the member on my banned list based on their feedback, both received and what they give to others.

eBay officially encourages members to report violations, but they have made it harder to do so. But then it’s in eBay’s best interest for the listings to end as high as possible so IMO they are a willing accessory to the fraud. Hmmm… I feel another class action lawsuit brewing. I wonder how many this will make, and how much our fees will go up to cover their legal costs.
