best way to promote your show

what is the bext way to promote your show if your on a budget is it really just handing out flyers and some cd's ?

Most towns and cities have a local music scene forum.. example i'm from sudbury and usually frequent www.punksud.net (it's not just "punk" either)

NEVER underestimate the power of flyers and word of mouth though.. tell as many friends as you can.. make a facebook event and invite every person you can. Leave flyers at every music store... post them on poles. There's alot you can do
