Off line edit question for Sonar 7 users - possible problem here?
I've had Sonar 7 for a number of months now. I just tried to do an off-line edit of a small section of audio I highlighted. Sonar will not allow me to edit only a portion of a clip. I can edit a whole clip when I select the entire clip but it won't let me off line edit a small selected section of a clip like I've done in the past with other versions. Is anyone else having this problem? This is handy for correcting/fixing a small piece of audio.
Bob

By offline editing you mean editing in an external application?
I thought Sonar (among other sequensers) only has the ability to edit the whole clip. If you need to edit only a section, then create a clip of that section...

You need to split the clip around the section you want to edit. You may also have to use the "apply trimming" command to the split section as well.
Just be aware that both "apply trim" and external editing are destructive edits and can't be undone later. Sonar has generally gotten pretty good over the years at providing non-destructive editing tools to cover most situations. However, I still find that on rare occasions I need to edit in an external wave editor. |

I figured this out. Sonar used to allow you to select (highlight) only a section of a clip and apply a destructive edit to that section by right clicking and selecting a plugin.
They changed the way they do that now. To accomplish the way of editing, instead of right clicking the mouse you need to go up to the Process/Apply Audio Effects menu selection. Editing a highlighted section can no longer be done using the mouse buttons alone. Right clicking now allows you to add a plugin to just that one clip in the track. Bob

Ive noticed differences in the ways clips are edited as well in 7 .. but once you get used to it it works well and has some cool things you couldnt do before , I was using 4 previously and for instance I think its cool how In 7 I can split a clip and apply a plug in to just to the section of the clip ive split.
