Welll...generally its used as a digital connection possibility. So if you have a preamp that has a spdif out, then plug it in there.

I run S/PDIF out my amp (Vetta II) With a dry signal.
The only thing being recorded is the dry guitar signal. I can then re-amp. Send the recorded guitar back out to the amp. I find this works great getting just the right tone and EQ settings to get the trac to fit in the mix. Its a lot less work and I can always change my tone at anytime. I am starting to record everything in this way. |

Personally, I have a t.c.electronic M300 stereo multi-effects box hanging on my s/pdif ports.
A good box for $300. You could also put on a pre-amp like the ART DPSII (among others...) Whatever you do, remember than s/pdif is limited to stereo and no more than 48k sample rate. |

It makes me wonder, because there are more often than not times when I can't get a clean signal unless I'm using the dbx's clock as opposed to the Mia's. I had thought it was a deficiency in the cable or the Mia or the dbx just not slaving to anything not connected to its word clock input. In short, I'm in a little over my head on guessing this one. |

SPDIF is limited to stereo but not 48k. I'm pretty sure you can do the full 24/192k on it.
