Best drum program?

Hey Everyone,

I record my own music at home and do all my own instruments. I play real instruments for all parts except My drum set is pretty bad I have no mics to get good sound so if I do try to record it, it sounds horrible. so I have been using drum programs. I started using Acid Pro, but then found Acousitca Beatcraft and like that a little more. However, I do get pretty mechanical drum sounds that dont sound very real. I was wondering if there was any better programs or techniques i could do with the drum tracks to give them a more "live" sound, or at least a more "live" feeling. I recorded the song "A Prayer, A Promise, A Passing" with Acoustica Beatcraft if you need an example of how they sound now. The song is on my myspace at www.myspace.com/christopherflitton

Thanks in advance for the help!

I dont quite understand. You have a drum set with good enough mics but are using a drum program?

To answer one question I have found that ezdrummer is a very realistic drum sampler although will never be as good as real drums. Ive found that even a not professional recording of real drums will sound better then sampled almost all the time.

Now to start recording your drums you have to try all different techniques out and im sure something will work for you. I have found since my room isnt the best room to record in that the recorderman technique works very nicely for me. I am able to get decent sounding drums raw. With a little help from plug ins I can get a relly good mix with my drums. Im sure youll be able to get something worth using if you jut miss around.

Hope this helps.
Dave

I also want to add that if your drums sound good to your ear, then they will sound good on a recording. Make sure they are tuned and sound good before you even set up the mics and usually the recording will take care of itself. Tuning the drums to the song adds a much more professional touch.

Sorry, I missed a word. I meant to say that I do have a drum set, but its a pretty crappy one and I do not have good drum mics So If i do try to record it it sounds horrible...sorry about that mistake.

I guess what I am mostly looking for is either a more realistic (though i know it will never sound fully real) drum program, or editing techniques that will give it a little more of a live sound.

There are many more complex drum VST's out there that sound more realistic than EZdrummer. DFH Superior, BFD, Addictive Drums...
