What would be a comparable guitar to this?

http://www.rondomusic.com/al3000rootthin.html

In terms of sound, quality, and price?

GuitarFetish imports guitars under the Xaviere brand name - they have a comparable model called the XV-700 Thinline. They're selling blems for $189 + S&H.

Nope. I do have one of the Xaviere Strat clones (the XV-850) and it is a great player, with great tone.

There's someone on the board - Surfmaster - that just got an XV-700 a couple of weeks ago. Check out this thread:

For what it's worth, my new-ish Melody maker has a real thin body, and the resultant thin joint at the neck heel makes it very easy to play, and it's got a great snappy tone.

But I've heard good things about both Agiles and Xavieres in terms of value for your dollar, so I don't think you could go wrong either way.

I was going to suggest Jay Turser guitars, but I don't see any pricing on their website. So I can't really say that they're in the same price range as Agile guitars.

I hear great things about Agile guitars. I have an SX bass that's kind of a POS but their customer service is great.

Jay Turser guitars get a pretty good rep around here though. I remember there being a thread or two started about them, and the compliments were flying around.

I've heard that, too... but I'm still not convinced, since reviews are spotty and inconsistant and there's too many questions about quality control issues for these brands.

Therefore, I'm going to let you guys in on a little secret and save the original poster some time, money and trouble.

Tradition S20

I played one of these about 6 months ago and it was hands down the best import LP copy I've played in years. They're on par with Ibanez Les Pauls from the late 70's that actually blew away the Norlin-made Gibsons at that time... I kid you not!

If you don't believe me, check the reviews and read carefully how much these LP copies are praised with glowing reviews, especially about the tone and build quality....

http://reviews.harmony-central.com/r...20+Series/10/1

There's one on EvilBay right now for $299.

Dude, seriously.... Tradition S20

i like epiphones alot..i have 2 of them...lp custom, lp standard..and the sounds of my custom rival my dads gibson sg special..along with its weight haha. i like their sgs too, and plan to get a red and black one...i'd say go for it..its a known name brand that gives quality stuff...but there are a lot of other cool options that people have shown in this thread that i wouldnt throw out either.

There's a dealer link on their website, which is why I posted the link to their website in my post.

They're not just sold on Ebay, Tradition guitars are actually sold at guitar shops, unlike the Agile's and X's. That right there should tell you something.... they're not afraid to let you try 'em before you buy 'em.

Agile and X guitars are more cosmetic flash than true "players" guitars. If you want eye-candy, get one of those. If you want a real nice player that sounds killer, get a Tradition.

There's a reason why everybody has to swap out the pickups and pots on Agile, SX and X guitars... because tone-wise, they pretty much suck. You won't have to swap anything on a Tradition, it's good to go right off the bat.

My guess is that you'll opt for the cheap eye-candy and you'll be Ebay'ing that same guitar within a year.

Well what kind of music are u looking to play? i mean if you know nothing about guitars idk if jumping to a les paul type of guitar is good..sure they are good for most things, but idk...i love the sound of my tele knockoff compared to my LP in some regards. Oh and btw, to Buck, what are the pickups in Tradition Guitars? I tried to see but saw nothing...

Well, Im mainly a drummer, but I like to play guitar every once in a while. Mainly getting it for songs I write to record with. Heres a short clip of a song I did, maybe itll give you and idea of my style.

http://www.effortlessrecords.com/idea1.mp3

Id like to be able to play some punk/metal stuff too, like The Melvins. Im pretty sure their guitarist used a LP, so I think Id be able to get that type of sound from a knock off.

i love the way my xaviere plays and feels...

i also decided to get it over an epi or an agile because of the fact that it is a thinline.

also the gfs pickups already installed are excellent.

edit: also agile and xaviere are not sold in stores to keep their prices down.

period.
