Gents,

I'm in a bit of an emergency. I was asked just last week to record a live record of three bands tonight. I only know one of those bands, included the link at the bottom.

They're musicians, so of course nobody is telling me what they're bringing, what they're doing, how many singers, etc. drums, who knows. I expect it will just be an acoustic show, that's what i'm being told.

So, I thought to record it binaural with two behringer ecm8000s. I don't have a dummy head. I guess the best way to do it is to place the mics 7" apart, fairly close to the front of the room.

Now here's the problem: the guy running the show wants to post these recordings to several music blogs, and hopefully get it on a college radio show to get some publicity for future concerts. So it's a bit more complicated than sticking a mic in someone's face and hitting record and hoping for the best. I want to try and do the best I can. I've never recorded anything binaural before, and have limited experience with these mics. I actually just had them shipped to me on monday, and recorded a bit in my apartment. I find them a bit noisy.

akg perception 200 large diaphragm (at my house, don't want to waste time going back there.

one of the musicians just showed up.... with a casio keyboard. it has no outs. just a speaker on the unit.

fuck.

should i bother micing it? he says its sound rivals the guitar when he plays it.

Nothing like planning things out at the last possible minute.

Just do the very best you can.

Look at this as a test, and as a learning experience. Learn to trouble shoot, and even to improvise if you have to. It will be a valuable and necessary skill to have down the road.
