Question The bass in my voice

Hello,
first of all, I'm new here, just subscribed so hey to everyone. I'm a young 22 years old guy and my passion is singing. I love to record myself on the computer for fun, did a couple of demos but anyway, the reason of my venue here is that someone on this forum needs to answer me on a couple of question. I record myself on a blue snowball mic that i just bought, it's really good and stuff but everytime that I hear what I just did without my headphones my voice seems to have too much bass in it.. It's hard to explain, don't know if it rings a bell to anybody. I would like to get rid of that ''too much'' bass so the recording looks ''normal''. I use the program cool edit just for adding some little effects but nothing ''professional''.

Thank you, if you need something to listen to understand let me know!!

And thank you by the way!

Philippe

You would use EQ to take away some of the bass.

What do you mean 'looks normal'. It doesn't matter what audio looks like.

try one (or more) of these

1. high pass filter
2. EQ. roll off the low end
3. different micing positions. perhaps you are too close to the mic?
4. a different mic more suited to your voice.

I've heard a female vocalist use a Blue Ball and honestly I was not impressed. it sounded pretty muffled for her mid-range voice.

It's probably the proximity effect. I think it works on that song fairly well, but it does sound a little muffled.

On another note, nous avons le même nom! It's odd to me because I live in connecticut.

Some mics get real bassy sounding if you are cloce to them. Try moving back from the mic a few inches (at least 4-6 inches, maybe more.) Proxcimity is easiest explained as the distance from a sound source to the mic. If you are used to singing live with a mic, you are probably used to being very cloce to the mic, for recording you have to get used to a little seperation for the mic to pick up your voice accurately.

I really like your stuff, your singing, arranging, and ideas. And I don't usually like electronically influenced dance/pop. I tried to download your songs, but you haven't enabled that. I'd gladly pay for them, so why not put a link up (don't know if you can charge via myspace).

I have a suggestion about your 'voice' situation. Why not go to Long & McQuade, and rent a couple of other mics.? Then you can compare how other mics. sound with your voice, and you'll be clearer on whether or not there is a quality in your voice that you want to change, or whether other factors account for the 'bass-y ness' of it.

All the best,
GVDV

The problem with Whatever lola wants could also be that the voice is way too much loud compared to the music, if it was lower it wouldn´t sound that unfitting to the rest.
