need help fixing this problem

hey i have a little studio in my basement, one room that i do everything in, its about 7ft by 13ft and 7ft ceilings
i wanted to soundproof it as wenever i use mics in there i get alot of roomnoise on the tracks, like very noticable white noise.
wat would be the best idea for soundproofing and how should i do it.
any help is greatly appreciated

First,

you are talking about 2 very different things here in the same breath......

soundproofing iis to stop outside noise from coming in - and to keep your sound from going outside............

Room noise (on the other hand) has nothing to do with sound proofing - and (as a matter of fact) will get worse the more you isolate the room.

So is the problem room noise - or the outside world?




BTW - just for the record here - typically a white noise sound would suggest to me (generally) a dirty signal chain - a problem with ground.......... a problem with dimmed lights on the same leg of power as my gear.........

I can't think of any room noise that I would describe the way you have.......

You might be barking up the wrong tree here.......

ah my bad, i dont mind about sound leakage i guess i meant acoustically treat the room, but ya hmm ill check out wat u said bout the signal chain

I tend to think of "white noise" as almost a hiss more than a hum. Hiss can often be reduced by cutting some of the high frequencies, lowering the treble on amps and cutting the gain a little on preamps. You might also be picking up something like air movement noise from a heat/ac vent, or computer cooling fan, mics tend to pick up little noises that we don't notice untill we play back a recording.
