Metal recording

hey guys im pretty much new at recording. My setup up so far is a presonus firebox / cubase sx3.
My band and i ( Metal ) are planning on recording a demo and need a little help getting started.
What equipment/mic should i get to get a nice metal sound for guitar?

spend the majority of cash on hand on a nice tube amp.

then turn your gain down and turn your mids up.

then go buy one of these

and place it where the yellow would be on your speaker, a few inches away. move it closer and further away from the speaker to vary the sound. if it is too brittle, move the mic towards the edge of the speaker, and if it is too muffled, moved it closer to the dustcap.



bask in the simple, yet workable guitar tone you now have.

the rest of your signal chain. the valve juniors sound great, not very loud, but great. You wont get a better distortion than you get out of the demonizer, and an eq will help a lot with shaping the guitar sound.

What an awesome deal on those es-57s for 30 bucks you cant really go wrong.

how is that mic? would it be good for recoridng toms??? like as good as an sm57?
