channel strip plugins

Where or how do YOU use them? Do you insert them before or after laying vocal tracks (for example). I guess I just don't understand what the point of a channel strip plug is. I mean, if you have good hardware pre's/compressors/eqs then it just doesn't seem like there is a need. Even if you only have "Decent" hardware it doesn't seem useful. Maybe that's just me...

I guess the point is to save on CPU. 10 channel strip plugs on 10 tracks has got to be more efficient than 10 comps, 10 eqs, multiple gates etc.

If you're dealing with 10's of tracks then I imagine they'd come in pretty handy. If you're only dealing with 10-15 tracks and you have a decent comp there might not be such a need.

And of course if you have decent hardware it's still unlikely you're going to have an amazing comp/eq for every track on a big project, not unless you work at Abbey Road.

What he said.

I only use them after tracking my self either on individual tracks or busses.
