Roland MT-32: Stupid Question

I was under the impression that I could use the MT32 as a "standalone" sound module.

(Ex) Midi Keyboard - MT-32 - Amp/PA

So I picked one up on eBay, plugged in my M-Audio midi Keyboard to the "midi in" on the back of the MT-32 and ran the two analog outs to my board. Nothing....

I've read through the manual a few times but it's not got much in the way of hookup specifics, etc.

I've done some searching on other forums but the most I can find is discussions on using it in conjunction with older video games, to improve their audio, etc.

Was thinking that I kinda understood what was going on here, but apparently I'm far more lost than I knew.

Appreciate any feedback.

Don't have an MT-32, but read this:

"Press MASTER VOLUME and the 5 part button at the same time, press the 1 part button. This will reset the MIDI channels one through eight, and when playing - typically - from a MIDI keyboard set to channel 1, it will play. If you don't do this, you're not going to be able to hear anything because for some odd reason the MT-32 factory MIDI configuration sets part one to MIDI channel 2. Channel 1 has mysteriously disappeared."

What midi channel is set on the keyboard?

That could very well be, it does turn on and I can scroll through all of the settings, just no noise yet. I'm learning though.

Warble, Thanks for that, I'll have to give it a shot. I'm obviously new to the whole midi thing so I'll have to look into which midi channel the keyboard is on.

Thank you very much for the replies, mucho appreciato.

I had one for eons.....loved that old box.

Here's a link with a manual in .pdf format. Maybe it'll help answer some questions.
