MR-8 Recording question

Hi gang

I am checking out a Fostex MR-8 and it appears that I really can't record 2 tracks simultaneously. Have you found this to be a problem? Yes I am aware of the "stereo" recording but thats like putting 2 things left and right on the same track.

Not sure I follow. I have an MR-8 that I travel with sometimes. Two line in (one for DI) or two mic inputs...records both simultaneously.

I typically us the inputs panned stright up then move tracks to my laptop. It's a nice, basic little recorder that serves me well when feeling inspired and on the road.

I used to record on an MR-8. If you assign the inputs to 5/6, or 7/8 you're getting them in stereo. But, you can also assign them to tracks 1-2, 3-4, or any combination thereof. You just press the red light over the faders. Then you can pan them any way you like.

I know that unit, and all of its little whines and moans. PM me if you have any problems with it.

For what it's worth, I think that thing is a great little recorder. Best to throw preamps in front of it and bypass the stock ones, IMHO.

By the way, those 5/6 and 7/8 tracks are in stero l-r only if you mix down on the unit. Which I think is a bad way to do it. Stick that USB plug in there and send it to garage band. When you load it into garage band, or cubase, or some other dumbass program, they'll all be panned center. You can pan them as you see fit then. And then ix it down proper, like.

Heres how it panned out.

I arrived at the drummers house and had a few beers. Sometimes when were just noodeling, some great ideas slip through the cracks. Well this time he pulls out this MR-8. I wasn't in the mood to learn how to operate it, So I breezed through the manual. What I learned was to put a mic in input A and one in input B arm track 5/6 and I could record just a rough mix of drums and guitar. Now I have 1 track (is it 5 or 6) with guitars on the left and drums on the right and I can't pan them or fade them indivdually

I ultimatley want drums on one track and guitar on another so when I mixed down, I could center the drums put the guitar near left and add bass near right.

Right now I can't do that

I noticed newer machines boast record 2 tracks simultaneously so I figured this thing couldn't

you should put A in track 1 and B in track 2 and you can do that
