i once played with a silly scary metal band that thought mine was "gay" (evidently the best adjecteve they could come up with for how un-tough i was with it). those things can cut through like crazy, even over a dimebag wannabe.

We used to have instructors in marching band hitting a jam block - they called it a "Gock Block" because that's the sound it made. It fucking hurts my ears, because the percussion would push my eardrums in. I hate those things, and I'm a drummer!

hahaha we had the same thing in high school. I was in the drumline and when anyone started to slip, the glock block was in their ear, till it would bleed. Haha

Oh don't get me wrong, this thing rocks. Don't really know how to use it, it's basically standing in for the lame hi-hat that came with the Pearl Targets.

A jam block is a plastic, mis-shapen wood block

I had one on my set back when I played with a larger, 7 piece set... worked well as an addition to fills on occassion, but not much use for a ride / cymbal replacement... granted, I never had occassion to rock the cowbell-ride, so who knows

I think I know what it is now...is it an elongated wooden device, rectangularish,slightly rounded, with a routed out channel on both sides of it ...and it gives you a pok pok pok type of sound? If so, I got me one of them, never knew what it was called.

are there more than 2 pitches of jam blocks these days (the red and blue)? i'm out of touch.

i've thought about getting one ever since they came out, but never found a place where i said "a jam block would be perfect here!" sounds like lots of people have, though. of course, i have 3 cowbells and am always checking out new ones.

Had a set of those too, but they didn't like getting whacked with drumsticks; they got all busted up.
