When you hear a snare you like, sample it.

Start with a good, crisp sample. Add a healthy dose of compression. Add EQ after compression to taste to add crispiness.

I wasn't tryin to be an a** hole, I was just answering your question. "For the love of the knoweledge", the best answers will be discovered through experimentation. When I said "when you here a snare you like sample it" that doesn't just mean off of a cd or LP. I sampled myself claping my hands in my bathroom and played with it in my sound editor for hours just to obtain knoweldge and see what I could come up with. Anything is possible, I could make a snare out of car door if I wanted to.

i remember some time last year, we had a big hip hop band in studio A. we sampled a table tennis bat hitting a table, and sped it up, and combined it with the same bat hitting a hand in our live room. it sounded amazing! we added an extreemly quiet hollow snare from the Ddrum module for a little more low end. just experiment.

ok, its comlicated... but the best snare sound I ever heard was this...

a) sample a snare sound.

b) get a LOOSE 12" speaker, and put it face down on a snare drum.

c) play the sampled snare through the speaker

d) sample the resulting sound.

IT RULES!

Yeah... And I just wish I wouldn't have sold my Ludwig snare that I used back in middle school band... LOL... That mutha costed my parents big cash cause they bought it through school... I remember mom saying something like..."You better stick with this cause we're working extra to pay for it"... Ah, the old days....
