Should I sound proof my wall with Auralex before I start recording anything?

They do have a line of products for isolation.

Room treatment like aralex is to kill sound reflections or echo in the room. Soundproofing stops unwanted noise from coming in or going out of the room.

Mell, I'd suggest the obvious--to experiment with some recordings before changing things too much. One of my favorite places to record my acoustic guitar is in my laundry area, with a mic on top of the washing machine. It's very live there, minimal soundproofing, and the sound is crisp and full. I've actually had forum members here and elsewhere ask me how I got that sound. So personally, I'd only treat a room to eliminate known weaknesses, but I'm too lazy even to do much of that. Or maybe it's that my wife would freak if I changed too much.

Tip: buy some cheap (hard) guitar cases at your local store and open them up, stand them on end, and align them to create a nice little isolation booth. Face the insides toward you for a softer sound and the outsides toward you for more brightness. Cheap, portable, and easy to do.
