Choosing Headphones

How do I choose the right headphones for home studio recording? I use a Roland VS840. I have read various reviews, the Beyer Dynamic DT100's are industry standard, but I notice there are a least two versions - 200ohm and
400ohm, so which set is best considering the output on my multitrack states 100ohm? There is also a set of 'phones that Sony produce, I've read they too are excellent.

I'd be very grateful if anyone can advise me which to choose and what difference the "Ohms" reference makes.

Many thanks,
Buddiedavey

Sennheiser HD280 Pro.
Sound good, very comfortable, $100.

I just about literally live in mine. They're on my head almost all day, everyday.

i've got a pair of akg k240s that i really love. i even go so far as to mix on them and when i do it's reproduced pretty faithfully on different systems (ipod earbuds, computer speakers, car speakers, etc.) so i suppose they're pretty flat for headphones. they are also on my head for most of the day

I have sennhesier HD-555 and I really like them, even though they are open and don´t provide almost any isolation of the outside.

Was always a fan of the Sony MDR 7506's... very clear sound, compared to lower-cost options I've used so far.

Ditto. 7506 has good detail but I find mine a little shy in the mids. Worth every cent though and can really take a beating.

I was thinking of buying those. Might grab 'em after the holidays.

I am a little late, but I'll put in another plug (pun intended) for the HD280 pro. I dont use them for mixdown, as for me, they add to much mids for my taste... but for recording, they are it for the price point.
