Question Latency?

buffers down, latency down, buffers up, latency up, is this monitoring latency or recording latency?

if it's just monitoring, then i can turn off monitoring recording if i have to, what's my other choices?

In any SANE app, this is just monitoring latency, they do auto latency compensation to place the file in the right time when you hit stop. In some cases the soundcard misreports the latency and most apps will have an adjustment you can enter your own value into.

You can use direct monitoring on your interface instead of monitoring through Reaper or your software. You won't hear whatever effects you have on the track, but there should be no noticeable latency even on crappy sound cards.

What kind of sound card/interface do you have?

a little while ago i got a Dell laptop for computer stuff, not audio. this weekend i got a zoom m2 for a songwriting notepad, but when i went usb'd it it had an option for audio interface, so i had to try it out.

this thing is a strereo mic on top and has a mic adapter so i put it in a desktop mic stand...

the file went right into reaper drag and drop, amazing, it was a .wav, then i decided to overdub on it

so i'm using the zoom m2 as audio input device and the stock sound card as audio out

i didn't even try using the usb zoom m2 for audio out

one thing i did was shut off all effects on the prior tracks and it helped.

i also only monitored the source for levels and then just monitored prior tracks during recording so if the latency was only on monitoring, it wouldn't affect the process
